What are you reading?
19 03 2007OK, I got excited – and posted Support Teen Literature Day a month early. There’ s so much great YA literature out there these days, I couldn’t help myself. Let’s keep the discussion going!

Happy “Support Teen Literature” Day! In light of the designation, I’m curious to know what teen literature you’re reading. I’ll start the responses – click Comments and add yours!
I just started reading Impulse by Ellen Hopkins. It’s the story of a group of kids who meet each other in a psychiatric hospital for teens who have attempted suicide. I’m only a couple chapters into the book, but wow, is it ever powerful! It’s written in verse, which makes it even more powerful.
OK, your turn! Who’s next?
I just finished Twilight by Stephanie Meyer on the recommendation of SPLAT members. It was goooood! I read it in one day and the first half was amazing….a bit of mystery, a bit of comedy, and a eensy bit of romance–the perfect mix. Around the center of the book, it lapsed into way too much romance for my taste, but the end picked right up with the tension and excitement. Good thing the sequel is already out…I can’t wait to read it!
I also started A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray….I’ll post my comments on that one when I’ve finished it.
Want a less heavy read? Pick up Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn by Sarah Miller–local author alert!–so light and fun!
Hey Maureen & Sarah, LOVE your enthusiasm, but you’re a whole month early!!! Not that it’s ever too early to enjoy Teen Literature!LOL! I just picked up the brand new TWISTED by Laurie Halse Anderson, so I’ll post on that one soon! Also, see you at the TEEN BOOK TALK at B&N in Millbury on April 20—the night after the official “Support Teen Literature” Day!
Just thought I’ld say hi. I would contridute my thoughts on a book only I don’t think I could chose one. There are so many good books and I am pritty much reading them all at once. But if I pick up a partickulurly good book I’ll come strait back. HAPPY FUN *_*
Your friend,

So I finished A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray last night, and what a great book! A turn of the century British romance-thriller is not my usual fare and I admit I was skeptical when I picked it up. And I had to push myself through the first 50 pages or so–all signs that this is not the book for me.
But then something amazing happened: it got gooooood! Some plot points were obvious, but nonetheless exciting to read, and even I admit I never saw one of the final acts coming! (tho, looking back, i probably should have:)
The best part? There’s a sequel!-Rebel Angels has jumped to the top of my “What to Read Next”list!
